Towards achieving academic excellence

The ANU Vice-Chancellor, V. Balamohan Das, has his priorities right. His efforts at bringing in academic reforms and making the admission process transparent are a step in the right direction.

The Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU) Vice-Chancellor, V. Balamohan Das, is holding a series of meetings with all stakeholders with a view to improving the academic atmosphere on the campus and proposes to hold a meeting of the Executive Council on June 18.

The meeting, the first after he assumed office last month, will discuss threadbare measures to be taken to improve the quality of education by identifying the weak links and strengthening them.

Streamlining the post-graduate admissions and making them transparent was the focal point of the preparatory meeting held on Friday with principals of all university-affiliated PG colleges, including University College.

Admission schedule

Prof. Das released the schedule of admissions that would begin on June 17. Principals were asked to adhere to the admission norms laid down by the University Grants Commission and the rules framed by the university to make them transparent.

With a view to bringing in as many academic reforms as possible and strengthening the existing system, Prof. Das proposed to discuss with council members the strengths and weaknesses of all the faculty members and supporting staff.

At a meeting with heads of departments of ANU he asked them to submit status report on the strengths and weakness of departments. Stressing on checking absenteeism among the faculty, he invited the heads of the departments to come up with proposals to ensure full attendance of both the teacher and the taught. He put the responsibility on the ANU Teachers' Association.
