Are you a fine arts lover looking for opportunities to learn in an institution dedicated to art forms? Admissions are on at the Government Music College for degree courses in vocal music, veena, violin and bharatanatyam.
The college offers three-year courses such as `Isaikalaimani' in vocal music, veena and violin, `Vaathiyakalaimani' for flute, mridangam and nathaswaram.
`Natiyakalaimani' is a course exclusively for women candidates offering instruction in bharatanatyam. The course on folkdances, `Nattupura kalaimani' would be the best choice for those who want to master folk dances such as karagam, mayilattam, oyilattam and kavadi. Candidates aged between 13 and 25, who have passed Class VIII may apply for these courses.
The postgraduate courses in music would train the candidates in music concerts and stage performances.
The college also offers one year training for those aspiring to become music teachers. Those who have a three-year degree in veena, violin and vocal music may apply for the course.
Housewives, working people, college students can make use of the evening classes. To join the classes, they must have passed Class X and be aged above 16. A fee of Rs. 275 is collected every year.
