COURSE CLOSE-UP

For a high-flying career

Saptarshi Bhattacharya

The boom in aviation and tourism has set the ball rolling for institutions training the manpower that they need. Students from Chennai now need not go out of the city to get trained.

Air Hostess Academy, an institute providing trained manpower to the service industry and having branches in seven cities in India, has opened up shop in Chennai.

It would offer a one-year course in Aviation and Hospitality Management and a two-year course in Global Aviation and Hospitality Management.

The institute's founder and chief consultant, Sapna Gupta, said the module for the one-year course would include training on cabin crew, hospitality, ticketing, persona enhancement and a foreign language.

Internship trainings would be held in hotels and the airport and would include in-flight activities.

The two-year course would be similar but would have a global perspective to all service industries in the second year with extension training on foreign language. Besides, the curriculum would include elementary management, stress management and situation handling in the curriculum.

A special stress would be given to swimming. ``The module would benefit the candidates as it would open up several job options,'' she said.

The centre, opened at No. 56, Block A, Thirumalai Pillai Road, T. Nagar, has already received about 2,000 applications for the 250-strong first batch.

The institute, a partner of International Air Traffic Association (IATA), also provides placement assistance, Ms. Gupta said.

For the one-year course, students would have to pay Rs. 84,500 as the study fee, which includes uniform, bags and study materials.

For the two-year course, the fee is Rs. 1,49,500, which could be paid in instalments.

The institute is also tying up with banks to provide education loans to candidates.

Applicants should have passed Plus-Two and be between 17 and 24 years of age.

The franchisees for the Chennai branch of the institute, Pavan Gupta and Vikas, could be reached at 5263 0055, 5263 0066, 5263 0077.
