Haryana junks marks, opts for grades
Concerned over ``heavy stress and strain'' on young students, the Directorate of Secondary Education, Haryana, has decided to introduce a grading system in place of the present marking system in examinations.
New concept
The State Education Minister Phool Chand Mullana has said that the implementation of the new concept of switching over to relative grading in place of absolute grading in Haryana is in consonance with the policy decision of the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development, Council of Boards of Schools in India and the National Council for Educational Research and Training.
In many competitive examinations, particularly in tests for going abroad, result is declared in terms of percentiles.
In accordance with the policy decision of the Union Government, it has been decided that percentiles and grading should initially be included in the mathematics subject of Class VIII, he has said.
