Fellowships for engineering, science, medicine
The department of Science and Technology, Government of India is offering fellowships (Rs.2000 to Rs.5000 per month) and contingency grants for students studying in Basic Science, Engineering and Medicine. Selection to the programme takes into account academic excellence and demonstrated interest in research. Selection is open to Indian nationals studying in India.
Basic Science
Up to 120 fellowships.
Stream SA: Students joining in XI Standard (Science Subjects) during the academic year 2005-2006 and having secured a minimum of 75 per cent marks aggregate in Mathematics and Science subjects in X Standard Board Examination.
Stream SB: Students joining first Year UG programme (B.Sc., / Integrated M.Sc., in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics / Statistics or Biological Science, B.Maths or B.Stats) during the academic year 2005-2006 and having secured a minimum of 60 per cent marks aggregate in mathematics and science subjects in XII Standard Board Examinations.
Stream SP: Students pursuing XI, XII or any UG programme (I or II year) in science. A research project is required.
Engineering
Up to 25 fellowships. Stream EA: Students joining I year B.E. / B.Tech / B.Arch during the academic year 2005-2006 and having secured a minimum of 60 per cent marks aggregate in Mathematics and Science subjects in XII Standard Board Examination. A research project is required. Stream EB: Students joining in II year B.E./ B.Tech / B.Arch during the academic year 2005-2006 and having first class in the first year exam of B.E. / B.Tech / B.Arch. A research project is required.
Medicine
Up to 25 fellowships
Stream MA: Students enrolled in MBBS programme. Students must have passed XII Standard Board Examination with 75 per cent marks aggregate in Science subjects not earlier than 2003. A research project is required.
Each stream has its own application form. Students who wish to apply for more than one stream should submit separate applications. SA and SB: Applicants may apply either hard copy or on www.iisc.ernet.in/kvpy while SP, EA and MA applicants have to send a hard copy only. Application forms can be downloaded from the KVPY website. Last date for receipt of completed application form with the processing fee is September 15, 2005.
