Traditional events mark Onam festivities



FESTIVE SPIRIT: Onam celebrations at Kongunadu Arts and Science College.

THE STUDENTS of Kongunadu Arts and Science College celebrated Onam on September 12. The programme commenced with the arrival of Mahabali. It was followed by traditional Onam games like `Vadamvali' and `Uriyadi.'

The festival also had an Onam feast. Lyricist P.K. Gopi was the chief guest.

GRD SCHOOL of Social Work organised a workshop on "Psychosocial Intervention For Mentally Ill Patients." Dr. T.P Kalanithi, Dean, Coimbatore Medical College, inaugurated the workshop. NGO workers and faculty members from various colleges attended the workshop. Dr. L. Ponnusamy, Lecturer, PG College for Psychosocial Rehabilitation, Bangalore, conducted sessions on "Working with Individuals," "Working with Groups," and "Psycho education."

Dr. K. Sekar, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychiatric Social Work, Nimhans, Bangalore, spoke on `Psychosocial Care for Tsunami Survivors.'

"AN ETHICAL Guide to Hacking Mobile Phones," the latest book authored by Ankit Fadia, an expert in computer security and author of several international best-sellers on the subject, was released at the PSG Institute of Management on September 13.

Dr. R. Nandagopal, Director of PSG Institute of Management, released the book.

Mr. Ankit addressed the students and talked about hacking mobile phones.

GURUVAYURAPPAN INSTITUTE of Management organised a national-level Paper Presentation Contest for MBA/PGDBM students on September 6. The theme of the contest was "Indian Corporates - An agenda for the next decade."

Out of 23 teams that participated, 10 were short-listed for final presentation. S. Janaki and N. Krishnakumar Prabhu of Department of Management, Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology, bagged the first prize. M. Parimala and M.Thiruvathal of Thiagarajar School of Management, Madurai, won the second prize.

DR. MANGALAM Balasubramaniyan, vice-chairman of EXNORA International, addressed Home Science students at a meeting arranged by the Faculty of Home Science, Avinashilingam University.

She spoke about female foeticide, infanticide and poverty.

She also advised the students to share their fortunes with the less privileged. Ms. Mangalam is involved with rehabilitation work of the tsunami survivors in Nagapattinam.

THE ROTRACT Club of Hindustan College of Engineering and Technology organised HINTERACT 2K5 on September 10. The programme included sessions on technical and leadership skills, games and extra-curricular activities. M. Rajendharan, Chief Manager, Andhra Bank, introduced various bank loans that students could avail of.

IN TUNE with the changing times, the commerce students of PSG College of Arts and Science have inaugurated an official website http://cascomua.tripod.com for the Department of Commerce.

The chief guest, N. Ananthanarayan, manager of IDBI, Coimbatore, delivered a guest lecture on recent developments in banking and released a practice workshop CD, which contains multitudinous forms such as banking forms, Income Tax forms, model partnership deed, memorandum and articles of association, advertisement copy and lease documents. In his address, he said that there has been a lot of changes in banking in accordance with time. There was a presentation on the transformation of `Inline banking' to `Online (mobile) banking'.
