SEAT OF LEARNING: The ISME campus
THE SILICON Valley of India will have another business school. International School of Management Excellence (ISME), founded under the NVT Quality Education Trust by the NVT Group and located in Whitefield, will offer management education with faculty and courses designed by the graduates of many top business schools in the world.
At the inaugural function held recently, Director of the school, Nitin Garg, alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Carnegie Mellon University, U.S., introduced the programmes and elaborately spoke on the reason why he feels that there is a need for management education of an international standard.
Stressing on the need for quality private business schools in India, he said that the number of such schools was currently low. "We believe that there is a need for a truly world-class private business school to support the globalisation of the Indian industry."
Placements
Highlighting the uniqueness of ISME, he said that the institute will focus on finding placements for its students in India and abroad. The uniqueness of ISME can be categorised under three major areas: global academic inputs, corporate connections across the world and the most modern infrastructure, he said.
"Apart from having graduates from Wharton and Purdue as our full-time faculty, our students will be working on real management consulting projects in the industry under the guidance of international experts from Deloitte, Bearing Point, IBM, Mckinsey and other top management consulting firms in the U.S. Our connections and the manner in which we are exposing our students to the industry will help them in placements both in India and abroad. Finally, our academic programmes will be delivered in our modern ISME campus and students will also enjoy gymnasium, health club and snooker facilities to develop them as complete leaders."
The institute will also focus on tapping the rural talent, Mr. Garg said. "In our admissions process we are not only concentrating on the major Indian cities but we will be having extensive contact sessions in smaller towns. Our admissions process also considers personal characteristics that add to the diversity of the class and this includes students coming from economically weaker sections or rural areas. We are having significant scholarships from NVT Quality Education Trust for such students."
The idea to invite guest lecturers from abroad was to supplement the local knowledge with what is happening globally, he said and pointed out that the local faculty and experts will deliver the management realities within India.
The programmes being offered include a full time Post Graduate Programme in Management (course fee Rs. 2.85 lakh) with a dual specialisation in marketing and strategy and a weekend Executive Post Graduate Programme in Management (course fee Rs. 1.45 lakh) with a specialisation in software enterprise management or quality management.
Management game
The students will be specialising in a functional area and an industry. Both the programmes will incorporate a "management game," developed over the last 40 years at Carnegie Mellon University. On successful completion, students will receive a "Certificate of Excellence" from David Lamont, Co-Director, Management Game, at Tepper School of Management, Carnegie Mellon University.
Food and separate hostels for men and women will be provided by ISME. The approximate monthly charges will be Rs. 3,500 for food and accommodation.
Four attributes
Giridhar J. Gyani, Secretary General, Quality Council of India, inaugurated the institute and he said that a good education system needs to have four attributes: academic, social, physical and spiritual development. "After reviewing the documentation provided by ISME, as a part of the accreditation process, I am convinced that the amount of work put into designing the courses has taken years and it incorporates all attributes of a good education system."
Mr. Gyani expressed confidence that "ISME will help develop leaders who will learn the art of developing other leaders."
ISME has announced the beginning of admissions for the academic session that starts in July 2006.
