AU-KBC gets WLAN
The Chennai development centre of Atheros Communication, a leader in IEEE 802.11 based wireless local area networks (W-LANs) area, has donated a WLAN equipment to the wireless group at the AU-KBC Research Centre
(www.au-kbc.org/comm) .
The two sides have had interactions for the past one year based on the common theme of WLANs.
The AU-KBC team has had exposure to Atheros hardware through consultancy projects. Also, the AU-KBC team has had success in organising corporate and student courses in WLANS, and a team of Atheros had undergone this training programme.
A key component of the WLAN training programme is the use of WLAN equipment such as access points and PCMCIA cards, along with performance measurement tools to convey a clear understanding of the 802.11 WLAN standard. Atheros has donated some of these equipment to enable AU-KBC to expand the scope of the practical component of the 802.11 WLAN training programme.
Research projects in the area of 802.11 and 802.16 systems (standards in wireless communication) have been going on at the AU-KBC Research Centre for the past three years. This has led to several consultancy projects, publications, and other collaborative efforts.
