SCHOLARSHIP WATCH

Aussie scholarships on offer

The Australian Government is offering study and research awards to candidates under the Australian Scholarships Programme to build partnerships and increase mutual understanding, knowledge and innovation.

Australian Leadership Awards (ALA)

These are for longer-term post-graduate study in Australia at masters or doctoral level. Relevant fields of study include management, economics, business, political science, philosophy, history, law and public policy.

In 2007, priority fields will include international trade, pandemics, security and clean energy. The scholarships will be allocated equitably between men and women.

Applications are now open and will close on July 31, 2006 for commencement at an Australian university in January 2007. More details can be had on email - ala_india@ausaid.gov.au

Endeavour Scholarships

These are open for high achieving Indian students, researchers and professionals to undertake short or long term study, research or a professional development programme, in a broad range of disciplines at Australian institutions.

The Endeavour Scholarships Programme is a major initiative of the Australian Government under the auspices of the Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST) For application forms and more details, please log on to: www.australianscholarships.gov.au.

Rhodes Scholarship

The Rhodes Trust is looking for bright graduates who want to compete for Rhodes Scholarships, one of the most prestigious in the world, tenable at University of Oxford. Students who are in the final year of their degree and have secured more than 65 per cent marks may apply.

The subjects of study include the Humanities, Sciences, Law, Engineering, Agriculture and Medicine (non-clinical).

The eligibility is between 19 and 25 years of age as on October 1, 2006.

Those selected will be given return airfare, college fees, and maintenance. The last date for receipt of applications is August 16, 2006.
