ATTRACTIVE: Models put up by students of Sourashtra Women's College.

An exhibition on Agro-Industrial Tie-up programme (AITP) as held by the Agricultural College and Research Institute, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, on Friday. Conducted by the final year B.Sc (Agriculture) students, a range of agro-based products and working models of agro-processing was kept on display. The college Dean K. Ramamoorthy inaugurated the exhibition. Under this programme, five final year farm graduates will be attached to industries, which manufacture value added products dehyderated fruits, vegetables, spices and agro-consultancies, and also agro-inputs like mixture and granulated fertilizer, Bio pesticides, fungicides and liquid fertilisers.

A three-day awareness programme on nutrition-literacy was held in the Sourashtra Women's College recently. Posters, charts and models were put up on the first day of the campaign in the topic `Rainbow nutrition.' They brought out the importance of coloured natural foods and their effects. While the second day's topic was `green food,' the importance of water and fibre in maintenance of health was the focus of the final day. A seminar on `Stress management' was also held in the final day, in which Ebenezer Devavaram, Psychiatric Forensic Officer, National Forensic Service, Ireland was the guest speaker.

An inter-collegiate academic event , `Tech Vista 06,' was conducted by the Department of Computer Science - IT programme on self finance, Sourashtra College, recently. About 150 students from various colleges affiliated to the Madurai Kamaraj University, participated in the programme. 35 papers were presented on various topics like mobile computing, data mining, networking and multimedia. Jaimi Joseph, Area Manager, HCL Infosys, spoke about hardware an the information technology sector.

Five students of N.M.S.S. Vellaichamy Nadar College have been placed in Cognizant Technology Solutions through the campus interviews recently. The appointment orders were handed over by P. Mahendravel, Secretary and Correspondent.

The college's postgraduate Commit Club of Department of Commerce with Computer Applications held a guest lecture on `report writing' recently. The meetingwas presided over by the pricipal, K. Natrajan. The Chief guest, M. Sendhilvelan, Reader in Commerce, Vivekananda College, spoke on the topic.

A seminar on `Mosquito Genomes - Know our enemy better' held in Yadava College recently, B.K. Tyagi, Officer in Charge, ICMR, Madurai, elaborated on the present state of Malarial infection in the country. He said that scientists have wondered how the water-starved Thar desert region in Rajasthan had a high prevalence of Malaria. He explained that they found out the reason to be a canal that passed from Maharasthra to Rajasthan to have breed mosquitos. He also said that youngsters should learn to keep their environment as clean and hygiene as possible as only then can this menace be solved.

A workshop on `emotional intelligence' was conducted by the Department of Management Studies, The American College, recently. R. Krishnamoorthy, Assistant Professor, Jansons School of Business, Coimbatore, conducted the workshop. The Vital quality of this topic was brought out by the principal, T. Chinnaraj Joseph Jaikumar, in his presidential address. The programme included a detailed presentation in the vital areas of emotional intelligence like self awareness, self regulation, self motivation, relating well and emotional mentoring.
