A sound education in dance

RASHEED KAPPAN

Dance need not be a cultural passion totally removed from your academics. Merging this ancient cultural expression with a career-oriented curriculum, the Bangalore-based Natya Institute of Kathak and Choreography has launched a three-year Bachelor of Arts degree course in Kathak and choreography. The course, says institute director Maya Rao, “promotes dance as a serious career for today’s youth, apart from being a medium of communication with myriad possibiliti es.”

The programme is open to applicants who have passed Plus Two or equivalent. The syllabus includes World History of Dance; Natya Shastra; History of Art and Choreography; Stage Design and Lighting; Music Composition; Mime; and Aesthetics. For details, contact Maya Rao, Natya Institute, No. 37, 17th Cross, Malleswaram, Bangalore . ph: 080-23348645. Website: www.natyamaya.in. Email: stemdt@yahoo.com
