The academic council of the Bangalore University, on Thursday, approved a proposal to start an M.Sc course in Applied Flight Dynamics (AFD). The course, which has been designed for people who have substantial flying experience, is all set to take off from the coming academic year, after the Academic Council unanimously approved the proposal.
Seeking to create a sound theoretical base for Test Pilots and Flight Test Engineers, the course is an initiative of the Air Force Test Pilots’ School (AFTPS).
The Air Force intends to execute an integrated curriculum where the first two semesters will be partially filled by the existing Flight Test Course of the Air Force. The third and the fourth semesters will see the augmentation of the course work and applied training to meet university strictures.
Among other things the course will require all applicants to have prior flying experience in Fighter, Transport or Helicopter stream and relaxations for SC/ST candidates will be made as per the existing norms of the Bangalore University.
A joint exercise between the Air Force and the University is a first for the university. However similar experiments have been made in other parts of the country. The M.Sc will be a self-financed or Armed Forces-sponsored venture.
