The scope is enormous and it is fun

For all those who want to discover their hidden artistic talents, the world of animation and multimedia is one place which promises good opportunities. With the technological revolution the world continues to witness and experience, it’s just not limited to animation film industry and has wide applications in several fields including print and TV media, architecture, engineering design, education, visualisation, scientific research, medical research, films, and desig ning.

A study conducted by Andersen Consulting and NASSCOM about two years ago had indicated 30 per cent annual growth rate in the next three years i.e., the Indian animation industry, which is currently pegged at $ 550 million, is expected to reach $ 15 billion by 2008, says Sridhar V.T., General Manager, Animation Training School (ANTS), Bangalore. The Indian animation industry has been emerging as an important destination for outsourcing assignments from global studios such as Walt Disney Picture and Cartoon Network due to its obvious benefits such as large English speaking base, availability of animation capability, presence of a successful entertainment industry, heritage of traditional literature to facilitate content-based partnership and state-of-the art computer hardware and software industry.

Courses

The success of cartoon films with Indian content and advertisers increasingly using animation to capture viewer/customer imagination and the potential on the Internet (once the bandwidth constraints are resolved) throw up a wide growing market. To capitalise on this, ANTS animation training studio offers career-oriented and industry-ready programmes to produce “2D & 3D Animation Specialists” with effective placements at home and abroad. It has opened its 15th branch in Belgaum and the first batch is all set to take off from June 25.

According to Mr. Sridhar, ANTS offers Certificate Programmes in 2D Animation, 3Ds Max, Web Animation, Photoshop, Maya, Flash, 3Ds Max Architecture and Career Programmes in 2D Specialist, Max Specialist, Maya Specialist, Max-Maya Specialist.

The course highlights include highly skilled faculty appointed directly from the corporate office, library support, project work/assignments on actual studio productions, grading and workshops by leading animators from India and abroad, career guidance, counselling and portfolio management.

Students are trained to create complex 2D and 3D graphics using special software.

There are value additions such as nature study to help enhancement of observation skills, layout and background study, seminars & workshops, competitions and continuous interactive sessions with leading animators and animation houses in the country.

The trained candidates have wide employment opportunities as Background Artists, Character Designers, Scriptwriters, Surfacers, Directors, Visual Effects Engineers, Idea Developers, Researchers, Scene Designers and Storyboard Artists.
