PG programme in homoeopathy
The eligibility for the postgraduate courses is completion of B.H.M.S (Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery), and one year internship.
Father Muller Homoeopathic Medical College has become the first medical college in Karnataka to offer post graduation in all homoeopathic disciplines.
So far, the college offered postgraduation in three subjects: materia medica, repertory, and organon & homoeopathic philosophy.
Homoeopathic medicine, pediatrics, psychiatry and homoeopathic pharmacy are the four new subjects introduced from this academic year.
Stanley Tauro, Administrator of the college, said paediatrics and medicine were the most popular courses.
This was because students can set up practice soon after completing these courses, he said.
Psychiatry was a comparatively new subject in homoeopathy. So, students are a little apprehensive about opting for it, he said.
Since the demand for homoeopathic education as a whole was not very great, the response to the postgraduate courses is not too high either, said Mr. Tauro.
However, this academic year, the response to undergraduate homoeopathic courses has been good.
The process of obtaining permission to start these courses was quite elaborate.
First, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences submitted a report to the State Government.
The Government then gave the college essentiality and affiliation certificates.
These certificates were submitted to the Central Council of Homoeopathy.
After an inspection by the Council, a report was submitted to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, recommending that the college be allowed to start the new courses.
