The National University of Singapore (NUS), rated 19th in The Times Higher World University Rankings, has completed 26 successful runs of graduate diploma in systems analysis. This programme conducted by the Institute of Systems Science (ISS) in NUS, is not only known for its high quality, but is also affordable. Dr. Venkat Ramanathan, principal consultant (software solutions), ISS, was here in Chennai recently. He spoke to Education Plus about the cours
e, its scope and the global career opportunities it provides.
What is the role of a systems analyst in IT? What are the duties and responsibilities of a systems analyst?
Systems Analysts are responsible for designing computer information system, modifying system to improve production or workflow, or expanding system to serve new purposes. They are expected to gather business requirements, translate requirements into charts and diagrams and also tell programmers how to implement solutions. Their role in providing IT solutions is enormous. In other words, taking IT to the end-user and also making optimum use of technology is the job of the analysts.
Please tell us about Singapore’s successful IT solutions.
Singapore is globally known for its efficiency, where a fair and equitable approach is adopted. When there is a problem, it is recognised and the solution perfected. Also, Singapore has for the past two decades successfully implemented IT solutions. For software solutions to be successful, we need a holistic support of all parties involved (management, people involved and government). Singapore has made use of technology very well, and, today one can send a text message via mobile phone and get a tin of soft drink at any vending machine in Singapore and the money for the same will be collected along with the mobile phone bill.
About the course in systems analysis offered at ISS.
The graduate diploma in systems analysis offered by the ISS is a 11-month, intensive course in IT training. Students graduating from this programme become highly skilled and well-trained software developers possessing both IT and business domain knowledge.
