Fruitful interaction: Faculty of Krishi Vigyan Kendra of Agricultural College and Research Institute addressing farmers at Kulamangalam on Thursday.
Krishi Vigyan Kendra of Agricultural College and Research Institute organised a training programme on ‘Rat eradication and seed village’ at Kulamangalam village for the benefit of farmers on Thursday. In his presidential address, K. Ramamo
rthy, Dean, highlighted the intensity of the damage caused by rats and the need for rodent management. He emphasised the importance of quality seeds for higher yield besides explaining the different methods of improving the seed quality.
P. Chandramani, Associate Professor, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, demonstrated various methods of rat control. S.M. Ibrahim, plant breeder, explained the selection of rice varieties while D. S. Rajavel, entomologist, spoke on integrated pest management practices to be followed in rice. P. Nagarajan, microbiologist, emphasised the importance of application of bio-fertilizer in rice. As many as 250 farmers from Kulamangalam and nearby villages participated. Different rat control tools were distributed to 50 farmers and 30 kg of seeds of rice varieties such as ADT-43 and ASD-16 were distributed to all the farmers. S. Kumar, Head, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, welcomed the gathering. K. Mahendra Kumar, Associate Professor, proposed a vote of thanks.

A seminar on ‘Advancing HIV prevention initiative’ and an awareness programme was organised at CSI Jeyaraj Annapackiam College of Nursing on Friday.
The National Service Scheme unit of the college and CARE, a non-governmental organisation working for HIV/AIDS patients, jointly organised the programme.
Balu, coordinator of the programme, spoke on the importance of comprehensive risk counselling and services, community care for people living with HIV/AIDS, clinical intervention and recent developments related to anti retro viral therapy treatment to nursing students.
The infected people, who participated in the programme, highlighted the need for a change in the attitude of people towards them and the stigma attached to HIV/AIDS. The programme also dealt with the activities of National AIDS Control Organisation, Tamil Nadu State AIDS Control Society and vaccine related research.
C. Jothi Sophia, Principal, inaugurated the programme. D. Edwin Rajakumar, NSS programme officer, welcomed the gathering. Y. John Sam Arun Prabu, adviser, proposed a vote of thanks.

To help students to face their ambitious future and tackle interviews, the SACS MAVMM Engineering College conducted a five-day programme on enhancing employment skills for the final year students.
Backed by professionals of IIM Calcutta and psychologist, the programme helped students to improve their skills in verbal, language, adaptability and extempore presentation and psychometric skills, group discussion and analytical reasons.
Productivity Reach, Chennai, conducted the programme. The Principal, P. Manjunatha Rao organised the same.
