Motorola Scholar award

A project titled “Automatic Inspection of Rail Ballast Using Ground Penetration Radar”, by students of the Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology, has won the Motorola Scholar Award.

The project competition was held at Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai, and conducted by the Foundation for Advancement of Education and Research, and the Motorola Foundation.

The project dealt with detection of sub-surface deteriorations in railway tracks that helped in preventing rail accidents. The radar system can be attached with a test vehicle and inspection procedure can be carried out on railway tracks. It will eliminate the need for manual inspection. The team of K. Arun Kumar Vikram, M. Saravana and R. Santosh, of Electronics and Communication Engineering, received the award.
