TBML College in Porayar in Nagapattinam district.

Ever since its establishment in the coastal town of Porayar in Nagapattinam district three and half decades ago, TBML College has been serving the higher educational needs of the rural masses in the Tarangampadi taluk area.

The aided college affiliated to Bharathidasan University was accredited with the ‘Five Star’ status by the National Accreditation and Assessment Council (NAAC) in October 2002.

Principal G. Jonas Gunasekaran said that apart from offering 13 undergraduate courses including B.Com., B.A. B.Sc., BCA and BBA both under the regular and self-financing streams; and 11 postgraduate courses in various disciplines including M.Com, M.A., M.Sc, and M.C.A, the college has research departments for history, cooperation, physics and mathematics. The institution offers M.Phil. in cooperation, physics, mathematics, commerce, chemistry and zoology. The quality of higher education flavoured with excellence is being maintained in the institution and the students bring laurels to the college through the university examinations and also by participating in the extra-curricular activities like NCC (Naval Sing), Leo Club, fine arts, sports and games, Red Ribbon club and quiz programmes.

Professor Jonas Gunasekaran said Tranquebar Bishop Manikam Lutheran (TBML) College, a religious minority educational institution, was established by Tamil Evangelical Lutheran Church.

TBML College draws its inspiration from the first Protestant Christian Missionaries, Bartholomaeus Ziegenbalg and Heinrich Pluetschau who landed on the shores of Tranquebar on July 9, 1706 A.D. The college was named after the Late Rt. Rev. Dr. R.B. Manikam, the first Indian Bishop of Tamil Evangelical Lutheran Church (TELC).

According to the present Bishop Rt. Rev. Dr. T. Aruldoss, the secretary and chairman of the institution, hostel facilities are extended to the needy students.
