University Grants Commission scholarships for rank holders scholarship watch

The University Grants Commission has introduced a Post-Graduate Merit Scholarship Scheme for university rank holders (in General and Honours courses at undergraduate levels) with the objective of attracting talents for pursuing postgraduate studies in basic subjects.

The scheme is for non-professional courses only. The selection will be purely on merit basis.

The awardees under this scheme can pursue their postgraduate programme in any area of specialisation as also in any institution of higher learning in the country recognised by UGC under Section 2 (f and 12 (B) of UGC Act.

Following are the subjects identified for scholarships: B.Sc General and B.Sc (Hons) in Botany, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and Zoology. B.A.(General) and B.A (Hons) in Economics, English, Geography, Hindi, History, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Sanskrit, Sociology and Urdu. B.Com General and B.Com (Hons).

While in general courses, the first and second rank holders at the undergraduate level in the above mentioned courses admitted in any PG courses would be awarded the scholarships. In Honours courses, scholarship will be awarded only to the first rank holders.

These awardees will have to submit the proofs of their merit position at undergraduate levels as well as their admission in first year of PG courses. The scholarship would have to however be subject to securing a minimum of 60 per cent marks at the undergraduate level.

Scholarships would be given for two years at a rate of Rs. 2,000 per month for 10 months in a year.

A total of 2,375 scholarships are available of which 1,800 are for general courses and 575 for Honours course.
