Countdown to job fair begins


The countdown is on for The Hindu-Opportunities Fair being held for the first time in Kochi on August 18 and 19.

Job-seekers can continue to register their names to participate in the fair, which is being conducted on these days from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Assisi Vidyaniketan Public School, Chembumukku, Kakkanad, Kochi. Registration will also be open on the fair d ays.

The Hindu-Opportunities Fair has already provided a ready platform for not only the first time job-seekers but also the already employed in all the cities where it has been conducted so far.

The fair is going to be held under the aegis of The Hindu with Cognizant as the presenting sponsor; SFO Technologies the associate sponsor; and APTECH the training sponsor. The Raymond Shop, Kochi is the Grooming Partner and TMI Fir st the technology partner.

The technology partner will take care of the registrations and other technical requirements for the fair.

Some of the participating companies are Allianz Cornhill Information Services Private Limited, Allsec Technologies Ltd, Aryans Infoway Private Limited, Assyst International Private Limited, Calpine Technologies Private Limited, Cordiant Technologies, Citigroup Information Technology Operations, Ford BPO Services, Genpact, Hages Business Solutions Private Limited, IDSi Technologies India Private Limited, Ind Sigma Infotech Private Limited, Intelenet Global Services Private Limited, KGISL, Larsen and Toubro Limited, Q First Technologies P Ltd., Outsource Partners International, SlashSupport India Private Limited, Sutherland Global Services, Tata Elxsi Limited, Visual Graphics Computing Services, Wipro Technologies, Wrench Solutions Private Limited, and Zerone Consulting Private Limited. Many more companies are expected to participate in the Kochi Job Fair.

The fair has been conducted four times in Chennai, thrice in Hyderabad, Coimbatore, Bangalore and Thiruvananthapuram. The other cities where the fair has been held successfully are Vishakapatnam, Madurai and Thiruchirapalli.

As many as 4 lakh job-seekers have either registered or attended the various fairs held in eight cities. Several thousands have got confirmed jobs. The fair has become a one-stop shop for job aspirants. The number of companies participating in job fair has averaged 30. Cognizant has been the presenting sponsor for every one of the fairs held so far.

Who can attend?

Job fair offers excellent employment opportunities to candidates with excellent communication skills. Individuals over 20 years of age; Fresh graduates / Postgraduates of any discipline, including engineering streams; Candidates with less than two years experience are considered as freshers; Experienced professionals with 2 to 10 years experience.

Obtain your registration acknowledgement, and walk in the fair with 30 copies of your resume to meet prospective employers.

What to expect?

Short-listing of the candidates in the stall area; tests, interviews and recruitment-related activities in a separate area; industries such as BPO, IT, ITeS, telecom, engineering, insurance and services .

The process

Inside the fair, first visit the stalls of desired employers that offer a suitable position and then visit other stalls. Candidates will be short-listed by the companies and sent for interviews or tests at the venue itself. Successful candidates will be offered jobs.

In case you are unable to spend time with the recruiter in all the stalls, register or submit resumes at the stalls that you are interested in. This would enable candidates who have not been met by the participating companies during the fair to have an opportunity to be called for a test or interview at a later date.
