Good job: NSS volunteers of Chidambaram Pillai College for Women at work during the camp held at Tiruvellarai.
Chidambaram Pillai College for Women was buzzing with activity last week with a host of seminars and extension activities. NSS volunteers organised free eye and health awareness camps at Tiruvellarai. The NSS coordinator, Bharathidasan University, Kanagaraju, inaugurated the camp and NSS officers Kavitha, Sumathi, Dhivyalakshmi, Akila and Lavanya coordinated the camp,
The Department of Business Adminstration of the college organised a seminar on ‘developing positive attitude.’ Alex, a professor from St. Joseph’s Department, was the chief guest.
The Association of Commerce Department organised a seminar on ‘functions of banks.’ The Senior Branch Manager of Bank of Baroda, Mannachanallur, spoke on the customer-friendly schemes available in the bank.
The office-bearers of Rotaract Club were installed at a function held here. B. Durga and P. Rathina took charge as the president and secretary of the Club respectively. Leo Club conducted a free-eye camp in association with Institute of Ophthalmology of Joseph’s Eye Hospital.
Over 25 students displayed their creative skills for the ‘College Kalakkal’ programme of Rainbow FM.

The Kurinji College of Engineering conducted communication and leadership enhancement training programme for 15 days. The workshop aimed at honing the soft skills of the students and helping them crack campus interviews. Resource persons — Michael Everse, Sandra Rani and Ravichandran — were from Tiruchi-based Optimum Training Academy. The Academy’s Regional Manager Remington Babu also handled sessions for the students. The Principal Nagarathinam inaugurat
ed the workshop.

The Communication Club of St. Joseph’s College organised a debate on ‘Woman President: to be or not to be’ during its third meeting of this academic year. After an introductory speech by moderator G. Sashikala, the students got into the discussion on the topic.
The 60th Independence Day was celebrated in the college, with Vice Principal Rev. Soosai hoisting the national flag in the college premises. Cadets from NCC units of the college and St. Joseph’s College Higher Secondary School took out a ceremonial parade.
In his address, Fr. Soosai highlighted the great sacrifices made by freedom fighters.
As a part of these celebrations, wreath was placed at the Gandhi Memorial in K. A. P. Viswantham Government Hospital. Breakfast and sweets were distributed to the inmates of Government Girls’ Blind School, Puthur.

Meelad Day was celebrated at Jamal Mohamed College with religious fervour. Poet Thengai Sharapuddeen Mishabi, the chief guest, spoke. He stressed on communal harmony for a peaceful living. In his address, principal M. Sheik Mohamed urged the students to work for harmony in the society. Hostel coordinator R. Kadha Mohideen and Deputy Warden S. Ismail Mohideen also spoke.

The inauguration of first year classes was held at Trichy Engineering College. The Chairperson Sujatha Subramaniam and the Chairman of Mookambigai College of Engineering S. Subramaniam presided over the function. R. Shanmuga Vadivelu was the chief guest. Principal R. M. Ramchandran explained the facilities available in the college and urged the students to utilise them to their maximum.

The Department of Physics and CHEMSTAR Club of Department of Chemistry of Cauvery College of Women organised a seminar on ‘recent advances in materials and characterisation.’ The Dean (Academics) of National Institute of Technology, Tiruchi, T. Balasubramanian was the chief guest. The seminar aimed at providing basic knowledge on micro and nano fabrication processes and thin film materials characterisation techniques. Prin
cipal V. Sujatha presided over the seminar.
The Rotaract Club of Cauvery College for Women had its officer-bearers installed at a function recently. The president of Rotary Club of Tiruchi Midtown P. Mahendra Kumar was the chief guest. R. Lourdu Felicita of III B. Sc. Microbiology took charge as the president, S. Ayesha from II B. Sc. as the secretary and S. Sathyavathi from III B. Com. as treasurer.

The Department of Commerce, Bharathidasan University, organised a lecture on ‘reflection on the evolution of corporate entrepreneurship in south India.’ Raman Mahadevan, an economist, was the chief guest. He briefed on the stages of development of financial sectors in India, stock exchanges, currency valuation, investment opportunities and recent development in Indian corporate sector.
The Department Head of Periyar Studies S. V. Rajadurai and the Department Head of Commerce and Financial Studies M. Selvam spoke.
