Sixty NCC cadets of H.K.R.H. College took out a cycle expedition in Uthamapalayam recently to create awareness of communal harmony. The rally started from the college and ended at Suruli falls after passing through several villages.
The college conducted several inter-college competitions on its campus recently to mark the Rajiv Gandhi Renewable Energy Day celebrations. Theni Arts and Science College student S. Sabarimuthu won the first prize in the essay competition and N.S. College of Arts and Science for Women student Nandhini clinched the first prize in drawing contest. C.P.A. College student L. Geetha emerged winner in elocution event. The winners would be sent to Chennai to take part in State-level competitions, said the organisers.

Command over English is essential as it is the one of the major link languages among countries in the world. Literature gives fulfilment in life. Children should be motivated to learn the language, said Dr. Lakshmi, Reader, Gandhigram Rural University, in her special address at the inaugural function of the English Department Association held at Sri Adi Chunchanagiri Women’s College here recently.

Jayaraj Annapackiam College for Women organised a two-day seminar on ‘Recent trends in Chemistry,’ on its campus in Periakulam recently. Bharathiyar University former Vice-Chancellor S. Sivasubramanian delivered the inaugural address. Experts gave lectures on drug designing luminescent sensors, nano chemistry, electro-analytical technique, spectroscopy and antioxidants.

In a move intended to foster links between the industry and academia, Mepco Schlenk Engineering College, Sivakasi, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the information technology major, Cognizant Technology Solutions (CTS).
Under this MoU, the CTS would sponsor programmes such as technical symposia, cultural events, student workshops and arrange for guest lectures for college students on a periodic basis. Experts in different facets of the fast-growing IT field, domain process and project management from Cognizant will function as visiting faculty at the college. The MoU was signed on August 9.

The ideals of ‘Tiruvalluvar’ were recalled on the occasion of ‘Valluvar Vizha’ at V.V. Vanniapermal College for Women, Virudhunagar, at a function held on August 8. Speaking on the occasion, Muthu Sathanandham, Head, Tamil Department, Arulanandhar College, Karumathur, who was the chief guest, spoke on the topic ‘Valga Valluvam.’ He said that people should not only read but also practise the ideals of
Tiruvalluvar. Prizes were also distributed to those who won prizes in various competitions conducted for the occasion.

A guest lecture, ‘Service to man is service to God,’ was organised for the I and II year National Service Scheme volunteers of Sri Kaliswari College, Sivakasi, on August 7. Delivering the lecture, T.A. Pasupathi of N.D. Thangappa Homeopathy Clinic, said that students should commit themselves to serve the poor and the mentally retarded. S. Kanmani, principal of the college, presided over the programme.
The Physics Association of the college (Kalis – Raman Club) was inaugurated on Monday. K. Sangaranarayanan, Reader, Department of Physics, Alagappa University, Karaikudi, spoke on ‘Crystal growth and its applications.’ He explained the various types of crystals.

Marking the 27th Inception Day of Arasan Ganesan Polytechnic College, Sivakasi, a Government-aided institution established in 1981, various competitions were conducted. All the 430 new entrants of the college were given opportunities to exhibit their talent through competitions such as English, Communication skill test, Tamil elocution, ‘Kural’ writing competitions.
Former Vice-Chancellor of Bharathiyar University Sivasubramanian delivered a lecture on ‘Goal achievement.’ He emphasised the need for self discipline and self confidence to surmount stumbling blocks in life.
