NTSE 2008
National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) State-level screening test will be held on November 18 from 9 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. by the SCERT in order to identify talented students at the Classes VIII and X levels. To minimize the number of competitors, it has been decided to conduct a State-level screening test in November and select 155 students in Class VIII and 185 students in Class X for the national-level examination to be conducted on May 11, 2008. One thousand scholarships will be awarded to the national level winners. Of these 225 will be reserved for the SC/ST students and 30 for physically challenged group of children.
Scholarships up to the Ph.D. level are provided to the winners of NTSE at the national level.
Eligibility
Only those pupils who are studying in Classes VIII or X of any Government, aided / recognised schools or Kendriya / Navodaya Vidyalayas during 2007-2008 are eligible to appear for the screening test and for the second-level examination to be conducted by the NCERT.
For the State-level screening test, only those pupils who have secured not less than C+ grade (50 per cent to 59 per cent) for all the non-language subjects in the qualifying examinations of Classes VII or IX of 2006-07 will be admitted.
The application for the State-level screening test should be submitted in the prescribed form available from the High Schools concerned/District Educational Offices, duly certified by the head of the institution. A demand draft for Rs.50 drawn in favour of the Director, SCERT, payable at SBT, Service Branch, Thiruvananthapuram, should be attached to the application form.
Completed application form should be forwarded to the Liaison Officer (Nts Exam) State Council Of Educational Research And Training (Scert), Poojappura, Thiruvananthapuram – 12, so as to reach the addressee on or before September 10.
The screening test will be conducted in 38 educational districts and in Lakshadweep. The test will be conducted in two part of 90 minutes duration each. The first part will comprise 100 objective type questions (90 questions for class VIII students) to test general mental ability.
The second part will consist of 100 questions pertaining to scholastic aptitude (90 questions for Class VIII students) in eight non-language subjects – history, geography, civics, economics, physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics.
