Fine arts beckon

Any form of fine art has not only got a history or legacy tailing it but also reminds us of our glorious past.

Be it advertising, textile, film, publishing or tourism industry, there is always a demand for good artists. Schools, colleges and psychiatric hospitals also employ fine arts professionals.

If advertising agencies need artists as visualisers, the textile industry employs the skilled professionals to create new designs and the electronic media and films for making cartoons and designing costumes and sets for their studios.

The publishing industry also employs artists for designing the book covers and to illustrate them.

Artists may design stamps for postal departments and also travel brochures for transport and tourism industry.

Being drawing teachers in schools, lecturers in colleges, art critics, writing in the papers or magazines about the art and art therapy in psychiatric centres are areas of fruitful employment for artists apart from freelancing.

Eligibility

Earning a degree in fine arts (Bachelor of Fine Arts) is the first step if you want to be employed as an artist. For acquiring a post graduate degree in commercial fine arts, one must be a graduate in fine arts.

Most of the universities check knowledge of colours, forms and basic sketching in their entrance tests for the course.

The BFA programme is usually of four to five year duration.

Though there are variations in the graduate courses offered in the different universities, painting, sculpture, graphics are the main elements that constitute the course.
