OU foreign students have a blast

The Osmania University international students had a good weekend at Nizam College recently. For the first time in the history of the university an exclusive two-day youth festival was organised for international students comprising of various competitions, including dance, music, essay writing, elocution and fine arts.
Over 1400 international students are pursuing their higher education in Osmania University and its affiliated colleges. Nizam College with strength of over 350 international students has more international students than any other college in the State.
The idea was to provide a platform for international students to exhibit their talent and showcase their culture through dance and music. The festival would not only provide entertainment to them but also help them in overcoming homesick phase, said Osmania University Vice-chancellor Suleiman Siddiqui at the inaugural session of the festival.
While some actively participated in competitions, others preferred to remain happy onlookers.
“Such festivals bring in all the international and local students together and it helps in bridging the gap between them,” opined Yama Pazhman, an Afghan student ay Nizam College.
Winners of the competitions will be announced on Wednesday in the presence of Osmania University Registrar.

First War of Independance
The First War of Independence in 1857 and the birth year of Shahid Bhagat Singh (1907) were recalled by the students of Bharat Institutions through colourful cultural programmes at an impressive function.
While students showcased the two national events through songs, dances and skits, Gorati Venkanna, a lyricist and balladeer enthralled the audience with his folk songs that reflected the aspirations of rural people. The occasion was also aptly utilised to honour the people who participated in the freedom struggle. Freedom fighters like Dharma Bhiksham, Narayan Rao Pawar, Guru Reddy, N. B. Srihari were felicitated amidst the thunderous applause of nearly 3,000 young students who only read about freedom struggle. Padma Sri Nataraj Rama Krishna, doyen of Indian Dance and Art was also honoured on the occasion.
Venu Gopal Reddy, Secretary of Bharat Institutions said their effort was to give students a holistic education and also inculcate patriotism so that they would uphold Indian values. VaraPrasad Reddy, MD Shanta-BioTech and P.Prasad, veteran trade union leader who graced the occasion appreciated the Bharat Institutions for introducing the patriots and their heroic sacrifices to the young minds. The Freedom Fighters shared the experience with the same spirit and fervour among the youths and gave a call to fight and combat corruption which is rampant today.
