Get ready to jive at Saarang 2008

Saarang, the IIT Madras cultural festival, is back with a bang! Five days of pump-adrenaline-down-the-veins competitions, forget-to-blink-your eyes performances and bang-your-head pro-shows —Saarang has redefined excitement and college festival through the years. Known for the quality of events and performances, it attracts participants and audiences from colleges all over the country.

This year’s edition — Saarang 2008 — will be held from January 23 to 27 and is expected to draw more than 20,000 people. The last edition saw participation from over 800 colleges with Karnataka alone accounting for over 600 participants. Several colleges from Karnataka including RVCE, NIT-Surathkal, MCC, M.S. Ramaiah, PESIT, NLSIU and IIIT-Bangalore have not only been a part of Saarang in the past but have performed exceedingly well, winning the toughest of events. RVCE and MCC have already confirmed their participation for this year’s National Inter-Collegiate Dramatics Contest.

This year is going to be yet another thrilling musical ride as you witness performances by the Indian heavy metal band Prestorika and international group Firebrands. Firebrands has performed its furious blend of heavy rock, punk and turntable SFX in Taiwan, Australia, Dubai and the U.S. alongside acts like Tommy Lee, Jet and Puddle of Mudd. It promises to touch a nerve that hasn’t been touched before.

The new attractions this year are Short Film Making, Freestyle Solo Dance and Queen of Sheeba. Freestyle Solo Dance is an event that promises to be a visual treat full of energy and exuberance as the participants set the stage ablaze with the loftiest, most moving and the most beautiful of arts. So, it is time to tune up the skills in your arsenal and arrive at Saarang where a plethora of events beckon and let yourself lose control!
