Need for management education stressed

The students association of G.R. Govindarajulu School of Applied Computer Technology, PSGR Krishnammal College for Women, conducted an inter-collegiate IT meet, “Cybersprint ’08.” Satheesh Kumar, Manager, Testing Services, Congnizant Technology Solutions, was the chief guest. He spoke on the scope and importance of software testing and the demand for software testing and the demand for software testing professionals in the IT industry. The meet included various events such as paper presentations, debugging, word hunt, technical quiz, marketing and cyber idol. Around 40 colleges took part in the event.

The annual sports meet of the Hindusthan College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore, was held recently. A. Pushparajan, Director and Head, Department of Physical Education, Bharathiar University, was the chief guest. He distributed prizes and certificates to winners.

The Department of Commerce, CMS College of Science and Commerce, conducted a national conference on “Indian Insurance Sector Innovation, Sustainability, and Social Impact.” C. Rajendiran, Commissioner of Customs, Excise and Service Tax, Coimbatore, was the chief guest.

ICFAI National College conducted ICFEST ’08, an inter-collegiate meet.

About 450 students from over 29 colleges participated. K.Hemalatha, Airport Director and Pongalur N.Palanisamy, Rural Industries Minister, were the chief guests. The meet included events such as “business quiz,” “ad zap,” ̶ 0;stock war,” “soft skills,” “web lance” and “best manager.” K. Hemalatha said there was an urgent need for management education with specific relevance to the Indian context. She distributed scholarships to meritorious students.

The P.G. Department of Social Work of Sree Narayana Guru College organised a national level inter-collegiate social work fest “SocioBeats.” Paper presentation, quiz, debate, photography, street play and case analysis on “Elderly and their issues” were conducted. Elders from Meher Karunalaya, Missionaries of Charities were brought to the college.

Coimbatore Institute of Management and Technology organised a special lecture on “Linux and RHCE Certification.” Venkatesh Kumar, Linux Specialist, Mazenet Solutions, Coimbatore, was the chief guest.

He spoke about the international certification on Red Hat Linux and said that with a certification on Red Hat Linux one could earn Rs.40,000.

He said it was an open source operating system and that it was flexible.

Forum ’08,’ an intra-collegiate techno-management fest was recently conducted by the Production Engineering Association and the Institution of Engineers(I) Student Chapter of PSG College of Technology.

It was inaugurated by the Head of the Department, Production Engineering, K. Prakasan. Paper presentation and technical contests were held. About 300 students from different departments participated.
