Italian scholarships

The Italian University Luiss Guido Carli, Rome, is offering 10 scholarships for Indian students to join its Master of Science course in General Management, a two-year course starting from September 2008. Any student holding a graduate degree or finishing graduation by July 2008 is eligible.

The 10 scholarships are divided into three categories and are intended for the complete duration of the programme. In Category A (four scholarships) candidates will benefit from a complete exemption of the annual tuition fee of € 9,000 and will get a payment of € 9,000 per year for their living expenses. In Category B (three scholarships available) the students will get a 50 per cent reduction in the annual tuition fee along with € 8,000 per year to cover their living expenses. In Category C (three scholarships), students get a 50 per cent reduction in the annual tuition fee. All candidates will be offered the option to complete internship in one of the Italian companies that cooperate with Luiss in this regard.

Interested candidates are requested to fill in the application form that is available on: http://www.luiss.it/internationalisation/?page_id=511. The selection will be based on the results of a test and personal interview which will take place at the end of April 2008 in Mumbai and New Delhi. The deadline for application is April 10. Big Fish Quiz Championship ’08

Big Fish Quiz Championship ’08, a 48-hour high stakes inter-collegiate contest, was a first of its kind and saw participation from 23 teams representing colleges from across South India. The trophy was bagged by Christ College of Hotel Management, while the first runner-up was PES College of Business Management and the second runner-up was Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration.

A sub-contest to identify Mr. & Ms. Big Fish had also been organised. The winners were Mannan of Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration and Pooja of Christ College of Hotel Management. The winners walked away with championship trophies, medals and offer of letters for the Management Training programme from Royal Orchid Hotels.

Marketing courses

Sri Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain College Center for Management Studies, the accredited study centre for The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), U.K., will offer three levels in CIM certificate programmes, commencing with Professional Certificate in Marketing, then Professional Diploma in Marketing and Professional Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing.

Any student who is pursuing the graduate programme is eligible to take up the CIM programme. Each level consists of four subjects to be completed over six months. It takes 18 months to complete all the three levels. The last date for applying for the June 08 examination is April 11.

Manipal University scholarships

Manipal University has announced freeships and scholarships to deserving candidates appearing for the 2008 admissions. The freeships are offered to candidates within the first 100 ranks of the merit list. Also covered are candidates with rank between 101 and 500 and with an annual gross family income of Rs. 2 lakh or less. The eligible candidates have to produce their family income certificate.

PG Diploma in Forensic Technology

Dayananda Sagar Institutions has unveiled the Dayananda Sagar Global Education in an academic partnership with the Karnataka State Open University. The launch of a PG Diploma in Forensic Technology and Cyber Crime and plan to provide education to those who missed out on the chance to go to college or specialise in new subjects was announced at the programme.

B.A. Vivek Rai, Vice-Chancellor, Karnataka State Open University, and K.T. Shivanna, Dean-Academics, Karnataka State Open University, were the chief guests. D. Premachandra Sagar, Vice-Chairman, Dayananda Sagar Institutions, presided.

Janardhan Jha, Sr. Advisor, Dayananda Sagar Institutions, said “Today there is a surge in cyber crime and trained cyber warfare personnel is the need of the hour. Approximately 20,000 personnel are immediately required by the industry. The year 2007 had recorded a loss of $ 7.7 billion by virtue of cyber crimes.”

Hospitality courses

UEI Global, the education initiative of Berggruen Education Pvt. Ltd., has launched its fifth institute at Bangalore. It will offer fast track hospitality courses from April 2008 and will aim at enrolling 200 students by March 2009.

The Institute is located at 1st Cross Road, 5th Block, Koramangala. Students, who will be selected based on verbal aptitude test and personal interview, will also be offered scholarships for the one-year courses. Ashish Kesharwani, Head of Hospitality, said “The hospitality sector in Bangalore is rapidly expanding with the demand for well-trained manpower constantly on the rise.”

UEI Global offers a Foundation Certificate in International Hospitality Management, Grand Certificate in International Hospitality Management & Certificate in Food Production. The course fee is Rs. 85,000 and upwards. It will also offer job-oriented short-term specialised courses in Bartending, Rooms Division and Service Operating.
