Thai delegation visits University of Hyderabad
Cultural fiesta: A cultural programme being presented as part of ‘Chetana-08’ State-level management fest at OU Engineering college.
The Mahasarakham University(MSU) delegation from Thailand comprising of Dr. Sujin Butdisuwan, Dean, Faculty of Informatics, MSU, Dr. E. Rama Reddy, Visiting Professor, MSU along with 12 other faculty members visited University of Hyderabad (UoH) and discussed areas of mutual cooperation between both the Universities in the areas of Computer Science, Mass Communication and Management Studies, with Prof. V. Kannan and Prof. B. P.Sanjay, Pro-Vice-Chancellors of UoH.
Prof. Vinod Pavarala, Dean, Sarojini Naidu School of Fine Arts, Performing Arts and Communications, Prof. Arun Agarwal, Head, Dept. of Computer and Information Sciences, Prof. P.C. Sarangi, Director, Study in India Programme (SIP) and Prof. Y. Narasimhulu, Registrar were present. The delegation later visited SIP facility on the University premises and interacted with the faculty.

The Department of Arabic, Osmania University organised a two-day national seminar on “Role of Hadith Literature in the Promotion of Indo-Arab Relations”. Inaugurating the seminar T. Tirupati Rao, Vice-Chancellor said that Indian scholars played a key role in the development of Hadith Literature and immensely contributed to the promotion of Indo-Arab Relations. He brought home the historicity of ties between India and Arab world and explained how they epitomised peaceful co-existence and universal brotherhood.
He lauded the pace of progress and modernization of the Department of Arabic at Osmania University and its significant contributions to the advancement of knowledge and furtherance of Indo-Arabic cooperation.
Mohd. Suleman Siddiqi, former Vice-Chancellor, Osmania University who delivered the keynote address said that Indo Arab contacts dated back to millennium and encompassed wide spectrum of fields. He mentioned that trade flourished between the two regions even in ancient times and added that this later led to peaceful settlements in south India and conquests and expeditions in Northern India. He explained in detail the contributions of Indian scholars for the enrichment of Hadith Literature. P. L. Vishweshwar Rao, Principal, University College of Arts and Social Sciences presided.

Teacher to visit UK
Prof. A. Vijay Kumar Babu of Department of Ancient History, Culture and Archaeology, OU has been invited to participate and present a paper at the 10th International Workshop on Jain Studies – Art and Architecture organised by the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London during March 6-7, 2008. He will also deliver lectures at the University of Glasgow and University of New Castle, Scotland on Indian Heritage and Culture through Ages.

Dravidian University, Kuppam, is organizing a four-day national conference and orientation programme in Comparative Dravidian Literature with special reference to ‘Current trends in Dravidian short stories, themes and techniques’ from April 17 to 19.
The seminar is meant to probe the possibilities of deducing commonness in the literary aspects of Dravidian short stories. The programme will be held under the aegis of the varsity’s ‘Indian Association of Comparative Dravidian Literature’, a body formed with the objective of conducting such workshops reflecting the national literary sensibility with the help of academic institutions interested in the area.
A student, researcher or scholar interested in the area can present a paper in the language of his/her choice – Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam or English. Preference will however be given to the papers presented in English, while those presented in regional languages will have to carry a single page abstract in English. The delegate fee for the scholars presenting a paper is Rs.100 and Rs.150 for those not presenting a paper, but still interested in taking part.

A book ‘HIV and AIDS: Vulnerability of women in Asia and Africa’, written by Kiran Prasad, an associate professor in the Department of Communication and Journalism at Sri Padmavathi Mahila Viswa Vidyalayam (SPMVV), was released in connection with the International Women’s Day celebrations recently.
Published by The Women Press, New Delhi, The book describes the vulnerability of women to HIV/AIDS as India has the dubious distinction of having 60 per cent of AIDS cases in Asia. The number of adults living with AIDS in India is estimated at nearly 4 million, while the womenfolk account for nearly 38.4 per cent. The book deals with sexual behaviour, knowledge of AIDS, attitudes and behaviour change, prevention, treatment and care of women infected by HIV/AIDS. Author of over 16 books, she is a former Commonwealth fellow in UK and Canadian Studies in Canada.

Kakatiya University BA/BSc/BCom/BBM I/II/III year annual examinations will commence from 13th March, 2008. According to the Controller of Examinations Prof. T. Papi Reddy about 2,42,836 students are appearing for these examinations in the university jurisdictional area of four districts Warangal, Karimnagar, Adilabad, Khammam in 145 examination centres. Flying Squad at the centres have been appointed.
UGC seminar
A two day UGC national seminar on ‘Aadhinuka Telugu Rachayithrulu’ (Modern Telugu Women writers) is being organized by Kakatiya University Telugu Department on 12th & 13th March, 2008. Vice-Chancellor of P.S.Telugu University Dr. A. Manjulatha would inaugurate the seminar on 12th March, 2008 at 10 a.m. in the Senate Hall while Vice-Chancellor of the University Prof. N. Linga Muthy would preside over the inaugural function.
