Need for more varsities stressed
When Rakesh Sharma was in space the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had asked him how he felt, and the answer was “Saare Jahan Se Acha Hindustan Hamara” -- such patriotism has to be inculcated among students. This was one of the suggestions made by a delegate at the two-day national seminar on National Knowledge Commission, Recommendations on Higher Education, jointly organised by Vidyarthi Seva Samithi and NKC, Government of India.
Over 155 delegates attended the seminar that consisted of six technical sessions on various facets of higher education with structure, governance, financing, expansion, excellence and inclusion being the topics of discussion.
There was a unanimous opinion to increase the number of universities from existing 371 to 1,500.

In addition, students should be motivated to work in rural areas and due importance to Sanskrit should be given. Moreover, IRAHE- Department Regulation Authority for higher Education was favoured in place of various organisations like UGC, AICTE, Bar Council, Pharmaceutical Council etc. Also, the delegates laid emphasis on students being taught Upanishads and Vedas.
APSCHE, Chairman, K.C. Reddy inaugurated the seminar and Osmania University Vice-Chancellor T. Tirupathi Rao was the Guest of Honour for the inaugural session.
