B. Tech student upgrades e-bike
P. Pavan Kumar, final year B. Tech (Mechanical) student from the Vazir Sultan College of Engineering has a technology breakthrough in auto engineering for his credit. A project he had been working on for the past two years finally proved to be a success, according to the College Principal, D. Vijay Kumar.
Addressing a news conference here he said the break through included remarkable increase in the mileage and speed (kmph) of an electric bike (christened VSC e-bike). He said the modifications effected to the traditional vehicle included introduction of a leg brake and gear system.
The mileage was increased from 40 km to 70 km per charge that takes two units of power. The vehicle speed was also up from 25 to 45 kmp hour. He said that the improvements which add to the performance, would help cut down the price of the e- bike by about Rs. 7, 000. The college was in touch with the authorities concerned as well as the e-bike manufacturers for transfer of the innovation from the lab to the users. The project cost was borne entirely by the management of the college, he added.
