Engineering college placement
About 80 per cent of the graduating class of RMK and RMD Engineering colleges have been recruited in the colleges’ placement process this year. Of 627 students, 502 received offer letters, mostly from Information Technology firms such as TCS, Wipro and Infosys.
Addressing the successful students on Placement Day, K. Ganesan, vice-president of HR at TCS, said, “Now that you are offered placement letters do not stop learning. Never be confined only to your chosen domain, but develop multi-tasking skills to be a leader,” he said. RMK group chairman R.S. Munirathinam said the remaining 20 per cent of students would also be placed by the end of the year.
St. Joseph’s College
Over 800 students of St. Joseph’s College of Engineering were placed in 52 companies this year. Offer letters were distributed to 810 students at Conquista 2008, with representatives from top Information Technology recruiters TCS, Infosys and Wipro present. The average IT sector pay package was Rs. 3.2 lakh per annum, but the top salary was Rs. 6.1 lakh per annum offered to three Mechanical Engineering students by truck manufacturer Ashok Leyland.
