Patient wait: Candidates await their turn for counselling at Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences in Vijayawada.

This year also, MD course in radio diagnostics continues to hold sway among the aspirants for higher medical education. The first ranker in PG medical entrance test opted for this seat in Osmania Medical College, thus continuing the tradition of top rankers in the preceding years at medical PG counselling.

Jillela Naga Srinivasulu, first ranker this year, was a happy and relieved person after getting the seat he dreamt of securing for years. He lapped up the MD radio diagnostics in OMC without a second thought, when the counselling began for 2008-‘09 batch. “I am very happy today. This is what I have dreamt of all these years. My dream has come true,” he said. Asked as to why he opted for radio diagnostics, Dr. Srinivasulu took no time to reply that it would help him in delivering better services and keep in closer contact with people and patients. He asserted that this particular field of medicine would be more useful for the general populace. After radio diagnostics, the candidates attending the counselling preferred general medicine as the second choice. Fourth ranker Kurumeti Vamsi Krishna, who was an OC candidate in Andhra University area, took MD general medicine in local category. His was the second seat that was filled after the first ranker. The second and third rankers opted to wait till they would get their favourite seat as per the roster system.Eighth ranker Sk. Subhani, a BC-E candidate, also opted for MD General Medicine in KMC, Kurnool in OC General category. Sadineni Raghavendra, 13th ranker, got admission into MD general medicine at Siddhartha Medical College in local category.

Right from the beginning of the counselling, candidates and their parents started arriving at Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences to attend the counselling. Even before the first seat was filled, there were several students who raised their voices against the method of counselling at the venue. Dr. Venugopal, who got 3,100th rank, said that injustice was being done to reservation candidates and demanded that there should be transparency. Dr. Nagesh felt that G.O. 74 was unjust, but the candidates were left with little time to go to court and get justice.
