NSS unit of SVU conducts special camp
The National Service Scheme (NSS) bureau of Sri Venkateswara University conducted a special camp last week, in which 150 volunteers from across Chittoor district took part.During the camp, the students conducted ‘Shramadan’ and removed the bushes and shrubbery growing on the campus premises.
The students also organised a ‘Clean and Green’ programme.
Lectures were delivered on topics like Environmental pollution, Global warming, AIDS, Importance of blood donation and Development of leadership qualities.
Vice-Chancellor C. Rathnam took part as the chief guest at the valedictory session on Friday.
The Vice-Chancellor gave a thought-provoking speech on the contemporary issues plaguing the student community vis-À-vis morality and responsibility.
K. Rajendran, Assistant Programme Advisor, NSS Regional Centre (Hyderabad) presided over the session, while R. Sreenivasulu Naidu, the varsity’s NSS programme coordinator welcomed the guests to the function.

Sri Padmavathi Mahila Viswa Vidyalayam (SPMVV) invites applications from women candidates for the post of research associate.
The work will be for a period of one year in its Bioinformatics Infrastructure Facility (BIF), and is sponsored by the Department of Biotechnology.
The minimum qualification is Ph. D in any branch of Life Sciences with a thesis in the area of Bioinformatics and some experience in the said field.
However, candidates with M. Sc in Bioinformatics with working experience will be considered for the post of Research Assistant.
According to the BIF coordinator M.N. Reddy, candidates will have to appear on May 5 for an interview at the varsity’s committee hall at 11 a.m. The candidates will have to come with all the necessary original certificates, along with a set of attested copies. ‘Indian Association of Comparative Dravidian Literature’ (IACDL) was formed at the Dravidian University, Kuppam, last Thursday as part of the three-day national conference on ‘Current trends in Dravidian short stories and techniques’.
The conference, inaugurated by Agrahara Krishnamurthy, noted writer and secretary of Central Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, was attended by more than 100 delegates and litterateurs from across South India, who are experts in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Tulu languages.
Mr. Krishnamurthy, who called Dravidian University the ‘right place’ for holding such a conference on the topic, lauded the Vice-Chancellor G. Lakshminarayana for his efforts in getting the Indian Association of Comparative Dravidian Literature (IACDL) established. He invited proposals from the litterateurs for collaboration with the Akademi.
Prof.Lakshminarayana explained the theme of the seminar and the efforts made to establish the IACDL.
He announced an annual allocation of Rs. one lakh to the association for taking up literary activities.
“As people are increasingly getting divided in the name of languages, there is an urgent need to organize seminars on comparative literature to generate the idea of oneness,” he noted.
Prof. M. Kumaraswamy Raju of the University welcomed the delegates.

The Department of Science and Technology (DST) has sanctioned a research project entitled “Investigations on DNA binding and cleavage activities of di and polynuclear transition metal complexes” to the Department of Chemistry in Sri Krishnadevaraya University (SKU), Anantapur.
The project with a cost of Rs. 15.12 lakhs will be implemented under the guidance of Prof. K. Hussain Reddy.
The project seeks to find the applications of metal complexes under investigation in the fields of medicine and biotechnology.
A junior research fellowship will be awarded and necessary equipment, gel documentation system, will be purchased by the department under the project.
Prof. Reddy has undertaken several research projects sanctioned by DST and Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) earlier.
The project duration is three years.
