Cusat CAT from June 14

As many as 38,029 candidates are competing for 962 B.Tech. seats offered by the Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) in 2008-09 through its Common Admission Test (CAT). The CAT, for admission to 11 B.Tech. programmes, will be held on June 15 at various centres in the country and abroad.

Vice-Chancellor Gangan Prathap said that all arrangements had been completed for the smooth conduct of the test. He said the examination proceedings would be recorded to ensure transparency. Special squads would conduct surprise visits in test centres. As many as 42,186 candidates have applied for CAT this year. Officials of the International Relations and Academic Admissions (IRAA) unit, responsible for its conduct, said there was an increase of 7,000 candidates from last year’s figure.

CAT for the B.Tech. and M.Sc. photonics (integrated) programmes will be held across the country and Dubai. The test for postgraduate programmes, except MA Hindi, will be held on June 14. CAT for B.Tech. lateral entry will be held on June 21.

Arrangements have been made at the centres to conduct the test in a free and fair manner. Booking of schools for the test have been completed. The university will depute various officials for the smooth conduct of the test.

The question paper for B.Tech. programmes will be returned to the candidates. The score of each candidate will be published along with the rank. The answer key for B.Tech. examinations will be made available on the university’s web site www.cusat.ac.in or www.cusat.nic.in. Registration for CAT was held online. Students were told to download the admit cards from the university’s web site. Out of the total 962 B.Tech. seats, 570 are available at the School Engineering in Trikkakara.

The breakdown of seats is: civil engineering (90); computer science and engineering (90); electrical and electronics engineering (60); electronics and communication engineering (90); information technology (90); mechanical engineering (90); safety and fire engineering (30); and marine engineering (30).

The branches and number of seats (total 300) available at Cochin University College of Engineering on the Kuttanad campus are: computer science and engineering (60); electrical and electronics engineering (60); electronics and communication engineering (60); information technology (60); and mechanical engineering (60).

The Faculty of Technology offers three B.Tech. programmes — instrumentation (28); polymer science and rubber technology (20); and naval architecture and ship building (24).

The results will be published on the web site after July 10.
