Engineering careers discussed

A seminar on ‘Prospects of engineering as a career choice’ was recently organised at Rajalakshmi Engineering College. Speakers including D. Viswanathan, vice-chancellor, Anna University, Jayaprakash Gandhi, Educational Consultant, G. D. Sharma, vice-president - HR, L&T (ECC) and Balasubramaniam, Director (Life Sciences) Cognizant Technology Solutions.

Speaking at the seminar, Prof. Vishwanathan, elaborated on the availability of over 60 branches of engineering available at Anna University and affiliated colleges. He stressed that the branch alone didn’t matter, but the performance and understanding of the subject also counted. Students should know that all branches of engineering have equal value, he said.

Mr. Gandhi spoke on courses which have huge employment potential. He emphasised the importance of core branches and the need to acquire employability and soft skills. Mr. Sharma spoke on the lack of qualified, employable candidates in all spheres and stressed upon the development of capabilities of the students.
