'Expansion of personality must be the ultimate aim of education'

CMS College of Science and Commerce organised a freshers’ programme to welcome its new entrants. B.K. Krishnaraj Vanavarayar, Chairman, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Coimbatore Kendra, addressed the students and urged them to thinks beyond academic excellence. Expansion of personality must be the ultimate aim of education. He urged them to keep in mind the five Cs – clarity, courage, conviction, confidence and compassion, and the five Es – energy, enthusiasm, enterprise, efficiency and excellence.

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering of the Hindusthan College of Engineering and Technology inaugurated the students association. R. Sathish Kumar, Director, Applied Micrologics India Private Limited, Coimbatore, inaugurated the association.

The School of Communication of the G.R. Damodaran College of Science organised the Amateur Visualisers Talent Awards and Recognition (AVTAR) fest recently. It featured a host of events like short film and documentary screening, ad zap, media one, mobile film making, hand painting, photography and creative writing.

The Coimbatore Institute of Management and Technology (CIMAT) organised a seminar on “Emerging Trends in Information Security”. Sivam Varadarajan, Dean, CIMAT, said that information security was on the top of the minds of chief executive officers of not only transnational and national organisations, but also governmental organisations. As far as the emerging trends with information security, he said that there was not a single trend, but several trends. The threats progressed from simple piracy to that if violating Intellectual Property Rights.

In connection with “Alagana Kovai” initiated by the Residents’ Awareness Association of Coimbatore (RAAC), Avinashilingam University for Women organised an anti-plastic awareness campaign in some residential areas.

Nearly 200 NSS volunteers visited the residents and highlighted the importance of shunning plastic bags in their households. They also distributed eco bags. As many as 1,100 households were covered under the campaign.

The Department of Statistics of the PSG College of Arts and Science observed the National Statistics Day. S. Asokan, Genral Manager, District Industries Centre, Coimbatore, gave an overall picture of the various industries in the district and also its functions. He said how statistics was applied in the industries.

In connection with “Alagana Kovai” initiated by the Residents’ Awareness Association of Coimbatore (RAAC), NSS volunteers and students of Sri Krishna Arts and Science College organised an anti-plastic awareness campaign in Ward No. 30 Theppakulam and Ward No. 40 Town Hall areas.

They distributed one cloth bag in lieu of 10 plastic bags. They also explained the ill-effects of plastics to the residents.

Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Paramedical Sciences celebrated its 21st annual day.

A. Krishnadev, General Secretary, Indian Pharmaceutical Congress Association and Vice-President, Indian Pharmaceutical Association, Mumbai, spoke on the evolution and diverse career options of the pharmacy profession. Scientific journal “Druglines” brought out by the college was released on the occasion.

The second batch of the Park School of Aeronautical Sciences of Park College of Engineering and Tekhnology were inducted into their programme by Captain Chris Clarke, the Group Chairman of CTC Aviation Group PLC, the U.K. He spoke to the students on advantages of modern day flying, which was unlike that of earlier days.

Earlier, flying depended on the ability of the pilot because of the lack of facilities and auto piloting, he said. P.V. Ravi, Chairman, Park Group and T.R. Karthik, Managing Director of the school of aeronautical sciences, spoke.
