The Shaastra challenge
It is time for students of engineering to put on their thinking hats, as ‘Shaastra 2008’ organised by IIT-Madras is here. This year, the organising committee has come with a new event ‘The Golden Design Challenges’.
And this is how the organising team describes the event: “A massive initiative taken by the institute to resolve issues faced by every Indian household through our core competency- technology.”
The main objective of this initiative is not just to pitch in a solution to the society but to drive a concern, to ignite and inspire every engineering mind across the country to voice against societal problems using their weapons of technology, students add.
Golden Design Challenges puts across five problems. The problem statements pertaining to multiple disciplines of engineering are formulated in such a way that implementing the solutions would help the community at large.
The total prize money for this event is Rs. 6,00,000. The Hindu Education Plus is the media partner for Shaastra 2008.
