GLIM’s social work programme

To ensure that the students pursuing MBA remained in constant touch with their social responsibilities, the Great Lakes Institute of Management, a Chennai-based management institute, has started a programme ‘Karma Yoga’, which is now compulsory for all students.

Under this initiative, each student would devote at least three hours a week to the project and perform services in a village and this would continue for five months. “We believe that values such as selfless service are important for a student,” said T.N. Swaminathan, director of admissions and associate professor of marketing at the institute, explaining the rationale behind this initiative. “This would help them later in their career too.” This would also provide students with exposure to the rural milieu, he said.
