UGC grants to university faculty
The University Grants Commission has sanctioned various grants to faculty members of the Avinashilingam University for Women for undertaking projects and research.
The Computer Centre of the university has been sanctioned Rs. 8.56 lakh for the project “A Novel Technique for Partial Fingerprint Recognition”. C. Meena, Head, Computer Centre, is the principal investigator. The project, which is for a period of two years, will focus on development of a new technique in identifying a person using partial fingerprints.
Another grant of Rs. 10.66 lakh has been sanctioned for the study of bio-conversion studies and identification of novel secondary metabolites from in-vitro grown adventitious roots of Withania Somnifera, which is used for gynaecological disorders, rheumatism, bronchitis and inflammation.
K. Kalaiselvi, lecturer, Biochemistry, Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, is the principal investigator for the project, which is for a period of three years.
