An Indo-U.S. pact to upgrade skills of engg. teachers
|
The poor employability of engineering graduates has brought academic and business leaders from the India and the U.S. together for a joint exercise to produce quality and “industry-ready” engineers through an elaborate national-level faculty training programme.
The Indo-U.S. Collaboration for Engineering Education (IUCEE) recently organised a faculty training programme for over 600 Indian engineering teachers from across the country at the Global Education Centre of Infosys Technologies in Mysore.
Under the “Facilitate the Trainer” approach, the teachers had brainstorming sessions with qualified professors from the U.S. spread through 23 workshops from June 22 to July 10, covering a range of subjects from computer architecture to advanced graphical design. The teachers were also equipped with course content and delivery aimed at improving quality of teaching. The teachers had an exposure to global practices with experts in various disciplines showing them the way. The programme also threw light on intelligent use of educational technology tools in order to scale up and improve faculty productivity.
The teachers are expected to share the knowledge with the faculty and students of IUCEE regional centres of excellence in different parts of the country. The training programme was the second such event organised by IUCEE. The first was conducted in summer 2008, where 585 engineering faculty participated in 23 workshops.
