The Armed Forces Medical Services provide good job opportunities for dental graduates through the grant of short service commission in the Army Dental Corps.
Students should obtain BDS with a minimum 55 per cent marks in the final year and should have completed one-year rotatory internship. MDS degree holders too can apply. Candidates should not exceed 45 years of age.
Eligible candidates will be shortlisted based on their final years marks in BDS. The candidates will be required to appear before a selection board for interview, and thereafter, the medical board will conduct medical examination. The candidates after training join the Army Dental Corps in the rank of Captain with a basic pay of Rs.17,472, and will be placed in the pay scale of Rs.15,600-Rs.39,100. They will be given a grade pay of Rs.6,100 and a military service pay of Rs.6,000. They will also be given a non-practicing allowance at the rate of 25 per cent of the basic pay.
Short service commissioned officers are eligible for promotion up to the rank of Lt. Colonel. On completion of two years service as SSC officers, they are eligible to apply for limited vacancy available for departmental permanent commission provided they had not attained the age of 28 years on 31st December of the year of application. Total tenure of an SSC officer is 14 years. Those who have three-year MDS degree will be eligible for three years antedate seniority. They will be promoted to the rank of substantive Major on completion of one-and-a-half years service whereas candidate with BDS degree will be promoted after four-and-a-half years.
At present the Director General, Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS/ DENTAL), Ministry of Defence, New Delhi – 110001 has invited applications for the grant of short service commission in Army Dental Corps. Total number of vacancies is 25 and last date for sending the application is August 31.

•The National Law University, Jodhpur ( www.nlujodhpur.ac.in) offers a Master in Intellectual Property Law (four semester) course.
Selection is based on an entrance test. Graduates in any subject with 55 percent marks in aggregate are eligible for admission. In addition, a law degree will be preferred.
•ICFAI University, Indira Nagar, Dehradun, Uttaranchal–248006, offers PG diploma in intellectual property rights.
•Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad, conducts a PG diploma in management of intellectual property rights.
•The National Law School of India University, Bangalore–560072 ( www.nls.ac.in) offers a one-year postgraduate diploma in Intellectual Property Rights Law (PGDIPRL) through distance education mode. Any graduate from a recognised university is eligible for admission.
•NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad ( www.nalsarpro.org) conducts a one-year non-residential web based PG diploma in patent law, cyber law, medical laws for graduates.
•Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) conducts a PG diploma course in IPR (PGDIPR) for graduates ( www.ignou.ac.in).
•The Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law under the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, provides one-and-a-half year fulltime residential postgraduate diploma programme (PGDIPL) and three-year fulltime residential LLB course in IPR ( www.iitkgp.ernet.in).
Medicine
I am a first year degree student (BA English). I completed my Plus Two in computer science group. Please let me know whether I am eligible to go for higher study in medicine.

Aspirant of higher education in MBBS, BDS, BAMS courses should have studied biology, physics and chemistry as optional subjects in Plus Two or equivalent examinations. English literature is also a good option. Make an all-out effort to successfully complete your degree and go for PG and even doctorate programmes.
