Highest percentage of Indian students in U.S.
“More than one lakh students have enrolled in various U.S. universities this year,” U.S. Consul General Andrew Simkin said here on Wednesday. He said India was now leading among other countries in sending the maximum number of international students in the U.S.
Speaking at the Education Week event jointly organised by United States India Educational Foundation (USIEF) and the Indian Bank, he said in spite of the terror attack on America the student inflow into the U.S. had not seen any decline. He said foreign education could be a very useful investment for the future as it could give students a new outlook towards the world. He said students need not worry about the visa process as all efforts had been taken to ensure it is done smoothly.
Indian Bank chairman and managing director M.S.Sundara Rajan said the bank was committed to make sure that every student wishing to go abroad will be provided financial support from the bank.
Representatives from the US, Germany, Holland, Australia, Singapore, France and U.K. made presentations about the various opportunities for education here. The stalls had representatives from the consulate guiding prospective students on how to apply for the courses and the financial support available. Several prospective students and their parents lined up at the stalls for information.
