The charm of the police services

for the nation: The Indian Police Service probationers take oath at the passing out parade at the Sardar Vallabhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad

Are there any organisations that are providing academic inputs on aquaculture? I want to become an entrepreneur in this field.

Shalini Mathur

via e-mail, Bangalore

It is wonderful to find that people like you are interested in a discipline that not many would like to focus on. You can surely become an entrepreneur and ensure that you succeed and provide opportunities for many other in the field. In Bangalore, you could approach the Centre for Studies in Aquaculture Nutrition, University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS) (www.uasbng.kar.nic.in). If you are willing to move out of Bangalore and understand the nuances of Aquaculture, then there are many Institutions that can help you out. Under the aegis of Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR) (www.icar.org.in/) you will be able to get a list of institutes that are dealing with this highly specialised area.

You could also contact the Central Institute of Brackish Water Aquaculture, Chennai (e-mail: ciba@tn.nic.in) and get further clarifications.

If you pursue programmes from institutions that function under ICAR, you will get a bank loan to start an aquaculture centre. You should contact the Karnataka State Small Industries Development Corporation (KSSIDC), a Government undertaking, at Industrial Estate, Rajajinagar, West of Chord Road, Bangalore-44, Ph: 23407011 – 25.
