When work permits for International students come with lots of attachments, the Canadian government gives a three-year work permit and that too without conditions like producing the offer letter or getting a job within a specific period of time.
But this offer is open to students who pursue undergraduate courses in accredited Canadian universities only, said Nihar Biswas, Senior Associate Dean – Research and Planning, University of Windsor, Canada. He was speaking to students at a seminar organised by The Hindu Education Plus in association with the University of Windsor. He said the three-year work permit is a unique offer and students can apply for immigration during that period.
Regarding the undergraduate courses, he said all the courses offered by the Canadian universities are accredited unlike other countries ensuring quality. “It is extremely standardised and almost similar across the country. So it helps students to get into Masters or Ph.D. programmes quite easily in US or other popular academic destinations,” he said.
On the courses in University of Windsor, Prof. Biswas said there is lot of stress on research in the university and that atmosphere helps undergrad or PG students.
Since Windsor is an industrial hub on the US border (only a river divides Detroit in US and Windsor in Canada), it supports the academic atmosphere. The flexibility of courses gives a wider choice to students. Moreover, it is always easy to move to US from Canada given the recognition of education quality in Canada.
Flexible
The Windsor offers a variety of Masters of Engineering courses and they are flexible for students to change as per their interest and also specialise in their area of interest. There is no need for GRE and students can get admission through TOEFL or IELTS scores. “A minimum score of 6.5 in IELTS and 92 in TOEFL is enough for eligibility.” The tuition fee for PG courses is much cheaper compared to US or other countries and is around Canadian $ 22,000. He said weather is also not a factor since Windsor is much warmer than other places in Canada. And lot of Indian students pursuing various courses can vouch for this.
