Fine musical impulse

IN HER Bahula Panchami concert under the auspices of Sri Thyagaraja Seva Samiti, Sangeetha Sivakumar gave a fairly good account of her musical impulses through raga alapanas and songs. In the higher reaches beyond the tara shadja, the rendering was strained somewhat. She kept false voice at a distance. That was one good aspect. The process of creativity was enveloped in tonal depth which helped her convey the essentials of Varali, Muhari and Kalyani in the alapanas.

Raga sancharas were meticulously expressed in a methodical way. The kirtana list included "Bala Kanakamaya" (Atana), "Yagnadulu" (Jayamanohari), "Eti Janma" (Varali), "Entanine" (Mukhari) and "Etavunara" (Kalyani).

At the beginning of the concert the voice was hesitant, but gradually warmed up to feel at ease in the rendering of Mukhari and Kalyani raga alapana and songs.

V. L. Kuamr (violin) and Arun Prakash (mridangam) kept her concert on proper course through their support.
