Stylish yet divine

AFTER A well-phased Bhairavi alapana without frills or gimmicks Rajeswari Satish sang Swati Tirunal's delightful "Janani Mamava" with emphasis on bhava and divinity, winning kudos from the discerning audience at Hamsadhwani.

The lilting "Neekelana" (Devamanohari, Ramnad Srinivasa Iyengar) with embellishing chittaiswaras received full justice from the artiste who timed this kriti well.

It was a pace setter for a comprehensive Poorvikalyani alapana for Dikshitar's classic "Meenakshime" with time tested neraval and swaras at "Madurapuri... "

Purandaradasa's "Govinda Ninna" (Jana Sammodini), "Eppadi Manam" (Huseni, Arunachala Kavirayar) and a kavadichindu gave poise to the concert.

Rajeswari has a soft and sweet saariram. Hemamalini (violin) and Hanumanthapuram Bhuvaragan (mridangam) were the accompaniments.
