THE MAHA Kumbabhishekam of Marathurai Sri Kathyayani Ambal Temple Marathurai, Thiruvidaimarudur will be performed on August 20, between 8 a.m. and 9.30 a.m., with the blessings of Sri Jayendra Saraswathi of Kanchi Math and Muralidhara Swami.
The three-day event began on August 18, with Ganapathi Homam. The Kumbabhishekam of the temple was last performed in 1992.
The unique pose of Goddess Kathyayani at Marathurai has Her holding a lotus in her right hand and Lord Muruga as a baby in her left. Work included the renovation of the three-tier Rajagopuram and the construction of a vasantha mandapam, and a separate shrine for Lord Muruga.
The sthalapuranam of the temple will be released tomorrow, the day of consecration.Marathurai is on the bus route between Kumbakonam and Vaitheeswaran Koil.
The route from Mayiladuthurai to Panthanallur will also pass through Marathurai, which is three kilometres from Panthanallur.
