Thematic presentation

OVER 35 SONGS by different composers and a galore of Tiruppugazh by Arunagirinathar, were rendered by Vasumathi Desikan, Radha Parthasarathy, Nisha P. Rajagopal, Amritha Murali, Anusha Pradeep and Vasudha Ravi, accompanied by R. Sathish Kumar (violin), B. Sivaraman (mridangam) and Trivandrum D. Rajagopal (kanjira), under the auspices of Hamsadhwani in a thematic concert, Kandanukku Gaanaarchanai. The programme conceived and coordinated by K. Y. R. Appathrai (KYRA), lasted for two and half hours and the worship to Lord Muruga created a devotional atmosphere and the audience went home in a reverential mood befitting the occasion.

Besides popular songs the list included a few rare ones too. Brief alapanas by a couple of artistes followed by a thematic song in that raga by the third member, thus maintaining the tempo of the programme and the artistes, most commendably, had realised that devotion and not musical prowess, needed the emphasis. This accounted for the success of the programme. — KSR
