Temple in need of funds
THE LAKSHMINARAYANA Perumal temple at Ammankudi was constructed by Krishnaraman, commander-in-chief of Raja Raja Chola I (1022-1044 A.D).
This place was named after him as Raja Rajeshwaram.
It is also called as Devithapovanam since Goddess Durga worshipped Lord Siva here.
This place is referred to in Skandapuranam by sage Rudu. As the four Vedas were recited regularly here, it is also known as Chathurvedhi Mangalam.
The presiding deity is Lakshminarayana Perumal with Goddess Lakshmi seated on his lap. The Panchaloka idols bear testimony to the Chola period.
The Lakshminarayana Perumal Bhaktha Samaj, Ammankudi, has decided to renovate the temple and perform Kumbabhishekam.
Contributions may be sent through cheque/DD to the president, A.R. Rajagopalan, Old no. 40, New no. 95, Dabir East Street, Kumbakonam - 612001, Thanjavur District, or to the convener, M.
